The idea - one vision

Africa is on our doorstep and it will fall apart if we do nothing.
We do want to do something about it and we want to make life in Mombasa easier. Our aim is:

	To encourage entrepreneurship as a strategy for development.
	Qualify the selected persons and advise them on a continual basis. Arrange the necessary financial funds through the organisation of the donations.
	Guide the selected persons to be independent in realising the principle of life.
	To offer an entrepreneurial perspective to women in particular.

What has happened so far?

	During a holiday in Mombasa in August 2006 the idea for Mama Afrika was born.
	The first project was spontaneously created: A village shop to supply its village directly. Two further projects were created, each financed privately...
	The non-profit organisation, Mama Afrika, was created, initial donations organised and a homepage was established.
	Meanwhile, more then 15 companies (projects) have been created and actively supported which are mainly developing successfully.

Mama Afrika is based in the coastal regions of Mombasa

	Mama Afrika spreads from 1,5 hour's drive from Mombasa in Kenya.
	Many people speak English in this region so its easy to communicate with them effectively.
	The region is partly developed and no longer one of the poorest regions in Africa and there is both potential and interest to combine entrepreneurial spirit with social responsibility.
	Nevertheless, there is still much to do. Due to the reduction in tourism between 2007 and 2008, many people have lost their jobs. The minimum wage necessary to support a family is about €150.

Mama Afrika encourages responsibility

	Mama Afrika believes that everyone has his or her own part to play in influencing the situation - and also the potential to change it.
	Mama Afrika demonstrates what can be achieved by creating new opportunities and maintaining watchfulness over them.
	Mama Afrika should rouse our consciousness and broaden our understanding of the situation.
